
Fixing those annoying heat spots in your Krones Contiform S
Ever deal with that frustrating pearlescence or thin walls in your PET bottles? It’s a headache. Usually, when your Krones or KHS lines start acting up with inconsistent heat, it boils down to two things: the lamp’s output is drifting or the quartz envelope is just worn out. We make replacement lamps that slide right into your existing setup. They match the OEM wattage and footprint, but we’ve tweaked them to make the heat distribution a lot tighter. The nitty-gritty on the heat field These things run on high-wattage shortwave infrared. To get that heat deep into the PET preform without burning the surface, the filament has to be dead center. I’m talking precision here. If the filament shifts by even 0.5mm, you get a cold spot. Simple as that. To stop the tubes from clouding over—which is why your heat usually drops off over time—we use a high-purity quartz that resists crystallization. It stays clear, and the heat stays consistent. The hardware side of things You don’t need to rewire your oven or mess around with the housing. We use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors, so they just plug in and work. We also tune the wattage based on which zone of the Contiform S oven you’re hitting. Some spots need a high-intensity burst for the base, while others need a steady soak for the body. We calibrate the voltage so you don’t burn through the lamps prematurely. A quick word of caution Here’s the thing: higher heat density means you can run faster cycles. That sounds great, but there’s a catch. If you try to crank up the wattage to make up for a dying oven fan, you’re going to cook your lamp holders. It’s a risky move. Just make sure your cooling blowers are clean and the airflow isn’t choked. If the air can’t move, those high-output quartz lamps will put way too much stress on the sockets. It’s a much simpler way to get your preform temperatures stable again without having to rip out and replace your entire oven array.
