Getting Your Sidel SBO or Matrix Lamps Right
If you’ve ever tried to swap out heater lamps in a PET blowing line, you know it’s not as simple as just matching the wattage. It can be a real headache. That’s why we built our lamp series to just… work. Whether you’re running an old-school SBO or a brand new Matrix, these slide right in. No hacking the machine, no “making it fit.”
The nitty-gritty on power
Sidel machines are picky. They rely on very specific voltage and wattage curves to get that PET preform to the exact temperature it needs to be. We’ve matched the original OEM footprints exactly. If you’re pushing a high-speed Matrix line, you need a lamp that can handle rapid cycling without the filaments just giving up. We use high-purity quartz glass to keep things stable. But here’s a tip: while a higher wattage tube gives you more heat density, it puts a lot more pressure on your oven’s cooling blowers. If your cooling system is getting old, pushing the wattage too high is a shortcut to a dead lamp.
Installation (The easy part)
We use standard R7s and Sk15 connectors. Why? Because we want these to slide into the sockets without you having to force them. No adapters. No messing with the wiring. It’s a true drop-in. One important thing though: the quartz is coated to push the heat into the plastic instead of wasting it on the oven walls.**Please, use gloves.**If you touch the glass, the oils from your skin create hotspots. When the lamp heats up, those spots cause the glass to crack. It’s a pain to fix, so just keep the fingerprints off.
Keeping things running
You can mix and match these across different oven zones to dial in your heat profile exactly how you want it. When you’re wiring them up, take a second to check the contact tension in the sockets. If the contacts are loose, you’ll get arcing, and that’s what kills the ends of the lamps. We built these to take a beating in 24/7 production environments. As long as your voltage regulators stay within that ±5% window, these things will keep on humming.
