
Getting the Heat Right in Husky HyPET Systems
If you’re running high-speed Husky HyPET systems, you already know that just cranking up the wattage isn’t the answer. If you just blast the preforms with raw heat, you end up scorching the outside while the middle stays cold. It’s a frustrating balancing act. That’s why we focus on IR wavelength control. We want the heat to actually sink into the plastic, not just sit on the surface.
Why “Deep Penetration” Actually Matters
Most standard IR lamps just dump energy onto the outer skin of the preform. When that happens, you get those annoying hot spots and bottles with uneven walls. Not a great look. We do things a bit differently. By tweaking the quartz composition and the halogen gas fill, we shift the emission spectrum. Basically, the radiation ignores the surface and dives deep into the PET. You get a temperature that’s consistent from the core to the skin. It just works better.
The Hardware Side of Things
These aren’t some complicated mods. Our lamps are drop-in replacements for Husky setups. We’ve pushed the power density high so you can keep your cycle times fast without breaking a sweat. But here is a pro tip: pay attention to the fit. We keep our tolerances incredibly tight on the length and connectors because a loose fit is a disaster. It leads to arcing, and then your lamps burn out way too soon. And since high-volume production is brutal on equipment, we use high-grade quartz. These tubes can take the thermal shock of rapid cycling without cracking.
One Thing to Watch Out For
Now, there is a trade-off. When you push more energy into the preform, your oven’s cooling system has to work harder. If your airflow isn’t up to the task, the ambient heat can build up and start messing with the machinery around the lamps. Keep a close eye on your cooling fans when you make the switch. It’s a small detail, but it’s the difference between a smooth run and a headache.
