
Why Your SIPA Rotary Oven is Acting Up (and How to Fix It)
If you’re running a SIPA rotary machine and seeing those annoying wall thickness variations or that cloudy “pearlescence” in your bottles, you know the frustration. It usually comes down to one thing: your preforms aren’t heating evenly. Here’s the thing. A lot of people try to save a buck by throwing generic IR lamps into their ovens. But when you mix and match lamps with different wattages or voltage tolerances, you end up with “hot spots” and “cold spots.” It’s a mess. The problem with “close enough” power We make our IR lamps to match SIPA specs exactly. Think about it this way: if your machine wants 2500W at 400V, but you install a lamp that’s off by just 5%, the heat flux changes. Your PLC starts panicking. It spends all its time “hunting” for the right temperature, which makes your heating cycles swing back and forth. By keeping the tolerances tight, we make sure the heat stays flat and steady across the whole bank. No guessing games. It’s all in the glass and the fit We use heavy-wall quartz glass because these lamps take a beating. They heat up and cool down fast, and cheap glass just can’t handle that kind of thermal shock. Then there are the connectors—usually R7s or Sk15. We don’t just use these because they’re standard. A loose fit at the terminal creates resistance. That resistance turns into heat, and before you know it, you’re melting your sockets. Our lamps are designed to be a simple drop-in replacement. No rewiring, no headaches. Just plug them in and get back to work. A quick tip from the field Our high-density shortwave IR gets deep into the PET preform fast, giving you a much more uniform soak. But a word of caution: if you’re running these at 100% power, your cooling blowers are going to work overtime. If those blowers are clogged with dust or just worn out, the oven temp will climb too high and you’ll scorch the surface of your preforms. Keep your airflow clean. It’s the easiest way to make sure your matched power output actually does its job.
