
Stop the Guesswork with Your SIPA Heating
If you’re running SIPA rotary machines, you’ve probably dealt with that annoying wall-thickness drift. One minute the preforms look great, the next they’re distorted. It’s frustrating. Most of the time, the culprit is the lamps. A lot of “universal” infrared lamps claim they’ll work, but their wattage just doesn’t line up with the machine’s original electrical specs. That’s where the trouble starts. We do things differently. We build our lamps to be a 100% power match, which basically kills those temperature swings before they start. Why the numbers actually matter Here’s the thing: when you throw in a lamp with the wrong wattage or voltage, you’re asking for trouble. You end up with hot spots in some areas and cold zones in others. If you put a 230V lamp on a 400V circuit? It’ll pop almost instantly. On the flip side, if the lamp is under-powered, your oven has to work overtime just to get the job done. That eats into your cycle time and slows everything down. We match the exact footprint of the SIPA system so the heat stays steady across the whole zone. No surprises. The gear inside We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the shock of being turned on and off rapidly without cracking. Plus, we fill them with halogen gas. This stops the filament from evaporating, which means the lamp lasts longer and the heat doesn’t dip over time. Depending on what kind of PET you’re using, we can tweak the coatings to change how the heat hits the plastic. The goal is to get the heat into the preform, rather than just warming up the air in the oven. And since we use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors, you can just plug them in. No need to hack apart your housing or rewire the machine. A quick heads-up on airflow Just a word of caution: high-wattage shortwave lamps put out a ton of heat. It’s powerful stuff. Because of that, your cooling blowers need to be on their game. If your vents are clogged or the airflow is weak, all that intense heat can actually warp your lamp holders or overheat the reflectors. Just keep your vents clear, and you’ll be golden.
